For the past year and
a half Ive
worked closely with Santa Fe architect Rod Gesten designing a house
to live and work in. This house will sit on a beautiful, unspoiled piece
of land at the foot of the Sangre the Cristo Mountains in Santa Fe.
This land, the incredible views, and the challenging architectural
design process have inspired me in the area of what I call architectural
elements.
That is, doors, cabinet fronts, lintels, valences, carved and painted
decorative panels, columns, etc
Ive gathered together pieces Ive done that loosely fall
into this category. My mind is churning with new ideas and excitement
around the possibilities as I now have the chance to create some elements
for my own home. In 2001 I was commissioned to create cabinet door fronts
for a kitchen belonging to one of my favorite collectors. I hope to
have the opportunity to create many more of these architectural elements,
as they exist solely in the realm of collaborative creation- and there
is the great fun of it. HR
